When visiting Spalding you will find a vibrant market town located on the River Welland in the South Lincolnshire Fens and is the largest town in the South Holland District. The Times newspaper has said the town is said to have one of the lowest crime rates in the country, a superb range of shops and excellent schools, is one of the best places in the country to live.

Well known and the host to numerous festivals and events, including traditional, French, Farmers' and Gardeners' markets. In Spring, “Spalding flower frenzy” is lead by the famous annual Flower Festival and Parade, which celebrated its Golden Anniversary in 2008 and attracts over 100,000 visitors for a weekend of floral-themed activity. Autumn sees the unique Pumpkin Festival which brings around 12,000 people to the town.
The lively town centre contains over 280 shops and businesses, with a mix of national retail chains department stores and supermarkets and a dazzling range of independent, family-owned concerns – greengrocers, restaurants, cafes, butchers, bakers and even an award-winning bookshop. There is a town market held twice a week that sells absolutely everything, and is certainly worth a visit for its atmosphere - fresh produce, flowers, household goods, and clothing.

And if you are on the hunt for something a little unusual or stylish, the town has built up its reputation for arts, crafts and antiques.
However, the town has not been backward at moving forward! It has recently developed a very thriving café culture with a decidedly European atmosphere. This atmosphere is complemented to a great extent by the tree-lined Georgian terraces along which the River Welland – complete with popular water taxi - runs from Easter to October from the Springfield’s shopping centre through the centre of the town.

The late-medieval Ayscoughfee Hall, with its magnigficent gardens, overlooks the river. This beautiful Hall, bequeathed to the people of the town houses a tourist information centre and fine museum showing life in the area over the centuries. Entry is completely free and is worth going to see when visiting Spalding. For arts and culture, the South Holland Centre provides a wide range throughout the year, with a variety of theatre, dance, jazz, folk, comedy, childrens’ shows and cinema.
There are other attractions worth visiting in Spalding, including the Pinchbeck Engine Museum, the Springfields Shopping Outlet and Gardens, the Bulb Museum and the Gordon Boswell Romany Museum. The area is also famous for St Paul's Church at Fulney, designed by Sir George Gilbert Scott, the designer of St Pancras Station in London.

Local markets are held in Spalding every Tuesday and Saturday offering fresh and local produce with a Famers Market being held on the first Saturday in every month.
