There is no excuse to preventing you from enjoying some great pastimes, whether for the first time, or as a seasoned expert.
For Gliding, the Lincolnshire Gliding Club based at Strubby Airfield, on the northern outskirts of Alford near Mablethorpe and Louth is possibly the best known. There is also a club based off the AI in the south of the county between Grantham and Colsterworth. You can avail of one-day lessons ending in a flight and certificate.
You can watch some great horse racing at the county’s race course in Market Rasen. Or perhaps you may care to ride a horse for yourself at one of the numerous stables dotted across the county, bringing a whole new meaning to the familiar statement “park and ride”.
There is a choice of 42 golf courses to choose from, some of which are part of hotel complexes with everything to hand to make it your central base.
Of course walking and cycling are two of the biggest sports and leisure in Lincolnshire pastimes. For walkers there’s a huge choice from long distance paths to pleasant coastal and woodland tracks. You can either hire a bike or bring your own. With all kinds of terrain to choose from, both the cycling enthusiast and the casual biker will find plenty of trails to follow. Or if it’s motorcycles that take your interest, you can watch competition at the famous Cadwell Park near Louth.
For the angling enthusiast, there is 140 miles of coastline to cast your line from, and many of the coastal resorts offer boat rental facilities for a spot of deep sea fishing. There are also boating and sailing facilities available at most of these resorts.
There are many tennis and squash courts and a number of gyms, squash and swimming pools, together with a full range of activities to choose from. And for nature lovers, there are plenty of parks, reserves and fine beaches. In fact, there are all kinds of recreational pleasures here to be enjoyed.
And finally, for the ultra-active, there are numerous 10k and half-marathon road races held during the year, most notable of which are held in the city of Lincoln.
